Monday, October 12 - Day 1 ??? DEPART USA ??? Today we depart Detroit to connect with our overnight flight to Rome aboard a wide-bodied jet. We enjoy in-flight movies, dinner and breakfast aloft. Tuesday, October 13 - DAY 2 - ROME - We arrive in Rome this morning where we tour her sites, passing the Roman Fora, the Arch of Constantine, the Coliseum and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. We conclude our day at one of the Catacombs, burial place of early Christians.  We celebrate Mass here and view the 2nd and 3rd century fresco paintings. Continue to our hotel for dinner and overnight. Wednesday, October 14 - DAY 3 ??? VATICAN CITY/ROME - This morning, we make our way to St. Peter's for an audience with Pope Francis if he is in residence. Following the audience, we will make our way to the Trevi Fountain built in the 15th century.  After free time for lunch we will visit the Basilica of St. John the Lateran, the Pope???s cathedral church where relics of both Peter and Paul remain under the main alter. Next we cross the street to see the Holy Staircase which is believed to be a staircase from Pilate???s palace in Jerusalem and brought to Rome by St. Helen in the 4th century.  Continue to the Basilica of St. Mary Major, the most important and oldest church dedicated to Our Lady.  St. Mary Major contains a relic from the manger of the infant Jesus.  We celebrate Mass here.  Continue back to our hotel for dinner and overnight.  Thursday, October 15 - Teresa of Avila - DAY 4 - VATICAN CITY/ROME ??? This morning after breakfast, we will celebrate Mass in the largest church in Christendom, St. Peter???s Basilica, built on the site where St. Peter was martyred.  Following Mass, we visit the Vatican Museums and the overwhelming Sistine Chapel.  After lunch on our own, we return to the Vatican where we will embark on a special tour of the Vatican Archives.  We conclude our day with diner and overnight at our hotel.  Friday, October 16 - DAY 5 ??? ROME FREE DAY ??? Today is free for rest, shopping or personal adventure.  Tonight we have the opportunity to explore the culinary delights of Rome, as dinner is on our own.  Overnight at our hotel. Saturday, October 17 - DAY 6 - ROME/ORVIETO/ ASSISI - Following an early morning departure from Rome we travel north through the Umbrian countryside. We stop at Orvieto for a visit and Mass at the breathtaking Cathedral, which is known as the jewel of Italian architecture.  Inside the Cathedral is the Chapel of the Corporal, which houses the chalice cloth involved in the Eucharistic Miracle, which occurred in nearby Bolsena. In the 13th century a pilgrim priest named Peter of Prague was celebrating Mass at the crypt of St. Christina.  He was having a faith crisis concerning the real presence of Christ in the Eucharist and while speaking the words of the consecration, blood started to drip from the consecrated Host.  Subsequently Pope Urban instituted The Feast of Corpus Christi.  Afterwards we continue to Assisi. Our first stop is in the lower town for a visit to the Basilica of St. Mary of the Angels, and the Portiuncula, Francis' Church of the Little Portion.  We then proceed to the hilltop village of Assisi for dinner and overnight at our hotel. Sunday, October 18 - St. Luke - DAY 7 ??? ASSISI - This morning we begin with a short walk to the Basilica of St. Francesco for Mass. After our visit of the Basilica and the tomb of St. Francis, we begin our walking tour of the village with a visit to the Church of St. Clare ???the little plant of Blessed Francis??? as she loved to call herself, where we view the San Damiano crucifix that spoke to St. Francis.   Kneeling before it, Francis composed the following prayer, which is considered to be among the oldest of his writings:  ???All Highest, Glorious God, cast your light into the darkness of my heart.  Give me right faith, firm hope, perfect charity, and profound humility, with wisdom and perception, O Lord, so that I may do what is truly your most holy will.  Amen.???  This afternoon, our taxis take us up to the Hermitage of the Carceri, where Francis and his Friars retreated from the world to pray and fast.  Here the grotto of St. Francis can also be seen.  We return to our hotel for dinner and overnight. Monday, October 19 - DAY 8 ??? ASSISI/SIENA/ SORRENTO ??? This morning, we journey through the Italian countryside arriving in the magnificent city of Siena, which invites us to stroll through its Gothic streets.  After we celebrate Mass at the Dominican Church commemorating St. Catherine, take the escalator down to the famous Piazza del Campo.  This shell shaped square is the dramatic setting for the annual Palio bareback horserace.  The piazza???s focal point is the Palazzo Pubblico, the public palace, which dates back to 1250.  We continue uphill to visit the monumental Cathedral dedicated to the Virgin Mary.  We continue south to the wonderful town of Sorrento along the Mediterranean on to the Bay of Naples for dinner and overnight at our hotel. Tuesday, October 20 - Day 9 ??? ISLE OF CAPRI - This morning, we leave Sorrento by steamer across the Bay of Naples to the Island of Dreams - Capri.  We tour the island including Anacapri and weather permitting, the beautiful Blue Grotto. Following Mass at one of the churches here we return to Sorrento for dinner overnight Wednesday, October 21 - DAY 10 ??? ROME ??? Today we motor along the Sorrento Peninsula on the famous Amalfi Drive with beautiful vistas along the way including the overlook of the splendid jet set village of Positano.  Afterwards, we continue to Pompeii, the Roman City destroyed but yet preserved by the volcanic ash of Vesuvius in 79 AD.  We celebrate Mass at the church of the Holy Rosary   visited by Saint John Paul II.  We than continue to Rome for dinner and overnight. Thursday, October 22 - DAY 11 ??? ROME/USA - This morning we transfer to the airport for our flight back home with memories of a lifetime.
