The sate of Chiapas is one of Mexico's poorest economic regions and home to its largest indigenous population. Chiapas used to be part of Guatemala and is said to have more in common with that country than with the rest of Mexico. If there is an undiscovered Mexico, this is it for the area is beautiful and largely unspoiled.
