Map of Ukraine - The map of the Ukraine shows an independent eastern European country which shares borders with the Russian Federation on the east and northeast, with Belarus in the northwest, with Poland, Slovakia, and Hungart in the west, and with Romania and Moldova to the southwest. To the south and the southeast, the map of Ukraine is bordered by the Black Sea, and the Sea of Azov. The Ukraine was one of the founding members of the USSR, and became a sovereign country again after the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991. The map of the Ukraine is divided into 24 provinces, or oblasts, and two cities with special status (the capital of Kiev, and the city of Sevastopol which is under lease to house the Russian Black Sea Naval Fleet. The Crimea region is also within Ukrainian territory, but is classified as an autonomous republic. The geography of the map of Ukraine is diverse, with most of the land area covered by fertile plains, or steppes, and higher plateaus, with various rivers criss-crossing the landscape. The Carpathian Mountain chain is located in the west, and there are also the Crimean Mountains, on the Crimean peninsula, as well as various highland and lowland regions.
