Map of South Sudan - The Republic of South Sudan is a landlocked country in east-central Africa. The map of South Sudan is bordered in the north by Sudan, in the east by Ethiopia, in the southeast by Kenya, in the south by Uganda, in the southwest by the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and by the Central African Republic in the west. The geography of the map of South Sudan is dominated by the vast swamp region of the Sudd, which is formed by the White Nile. South Sudan became an independent state on July 9, 2011, with a referendum vote that passed with over 98% of the vote, where it seceded from the Republic of Sudan, with permission of that state. Politically, the map of South Sudan is divided into ten states, which correspond to three historical regions, and which are further sub-divided into 86 counties. The map of South Sudan has a varying landscape which consists of grasslands, wooded and grassy savannas, high-altitude escarpments and plateaus, as well as wetlands and floodplains. The Bandingilo National Park is a protected area in South Sudan which hosts the continent's second largest animal migration, and there are other national parks which help to protect habitat for a large variety of species.
