Map Saudi Arabia - Country Information
Map of Saudi Arabia - The map of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia depicts the largest Arab state in western Asia, and a country which contains the world's second largest oil reserves. The map of Saudi Arabia is bordered in the north and northeast by Jordan and Iraq, by Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates in the east, Oman and Yemen on the southeast and south, and the Red Sea in the west, with the Persian Gulf also to the east. The map of Saudi Arabia comprises the bulk of the Arabian Peninsula, and Saudi Arabia is sometimes also known as "The Land of the Two Holy Mosques" because the mosques at Mecca and Medina, the two holiest places in Islam are located within its borders. The map of Saudi Arabia comprises about 80 percent of the Arabian Peninsula, but, because the southern borders with Oman and the United Arab Emirates are not precisely defined or marked, the exact size of the country is unknown. The map of the Saudi Arabia is dominated by the Arabian Desert, and associated semi-desert and shrublands, which is actually a number of linked desert regions, including the southern "Empty Quarter," and is the largest contiguous sand desert in the world. There are virtually no rivers and lakes in the country, but there are numerous wadis, or valleys, sometimes with dry, ephemeral river beds. The few fertile areas are in alluvial deposits in wadis, oases, and basins. The main geographical feature is the central plateau, which rises abruptly from the Red Sea and slopes down into the Nejd and the Persian Gulf.
