Map Great Britain - Country Information
Map of the United Kingdom - The map of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland depicts an island nation located north of France in the North Sea, off the northwestern coast of continental Europe. The map of the UK is politically divided into 4 administrative regions (or countries): England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland. England, Scotland and Wales share one of the main islands, while Northern Ireland shares an island with the Republic of Ireland. Other than the Republic of Ireland, the UK is bordered only by water: the Atlantic Ocean, the North Sea, the Irish Sea, and the English Channel. The UK also still has many territories overseas, which are remnants of the British Empire. England accounts for about one half of the total land area of the UK, and most of this country is lowland terrain, with some mountains in the northwest. Scotland makes up about a third of the land area, and is divided into highland and lowland terrain by the Highland Boundary Fault, which is a geological rock fracture formation. Wales makes up only a little under a tenth of the land area, and is mostly mountainous. Northern Ireland's terrain is mostly hilly, and it accounts for a little over 14000 square kilometres of land area. The climate of the British Isles is temperate, with abundant rainfall.
