Map of Algeria - Located in the Maghreb region of northern Africa, the map of the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria is an arab country bordered in the north by the Mediterranean Sea, in the northeast by Tunisia, in the east by Libya, in the southeast by Niger, in the southwest by Mali, Mauritania, and Western Sahara, and in the west by Morocco. The Algerian region has been under the control of many civilizations through the ages, including the Numidians, Carthaginians, Romans, Byzantines and the Vandals, among others. The economy of Algeria is dominated by the oil trade, with the national oil company being the largest company in Africa. The southern region of the map of Algeria is dominated by a large portion of the Sahara Desert, while the coastal regions are hilly to the point of almost being mountainous, and contain few natural harbours. Both in the north and south are parallel sets of high-relief mountain ranges known as the Tell Atlas, and the Saharan Atlas respectively, and between which are vast plains and highlands. These ranges begin to merge towards the east, and the northeastern region of the map of Algeria is dominated by the Aures and Nememcha mountain ranges. The area located between the Mediterranean coast and the Tell Atlas is the most fertile region in the country.
